The Cog, The Machine

The Cog, The Machine

industrial / existentialism

The machine doesn’t know your name. It doesn’t need to. You show up, you turn, you wear down. The question isn’t whether the system uses you it’s whether you’d notice if it stopped.

    Original poem
    Am I the cog
Or the dust that falls between
    Am I the fuel?
    Am I the waste?
    Or am I the machine?
    Do I show myself?
Or do I carry on unseen?

    Cycles and spirals
    Gears keep turning
    Dust in the shadows
    The engine's yearning
    Fuel ignites
    But the ash is learning
    Am I the spark
Or am I the flame that's burning?

    Am I the path
or am I the one that's chosen?
    Am I the thread
or am I the needle woven?

Am I lost in the cracks
    Of doors unopened?

    Am I the tide?
Or am I the force of the ocean?
    Echoes hum,
    And my pulse keeps growing.
    Lyrics

am i the fuel, the waste or the machine
do i show myself, or carry on unseen
    carry on unseen

Dust in the shadows, the engine's yearning,
Fuel ignites, but the ash is learning,
Am I the spark or the flame that's burning?

    Blueprint coded, systems frozen,
Am I the path or the one that's chosen?
Am I the thread or the needle woven,
Lost in the cracks of the doors unopened?

Drive or drag, the weight, the motion,
Am I the tide or the force of the ocean?
Echoes hum, and the pulse keeps showing,
Carry on unseen, but the question's growing.
